SWIPE TO ENGAGE

22.12.2017 kell 18.00
ARSi PROJEKTIRUUM

Pealkiri “Swipe to engage” viitab nutitelefoni ekraaniluku aktiveerimisele.

“Swipe to engage” on Eesti Kunstiakadeemia maaliosakonna teise kursuse magistrantide ühisnäitus. Igal kunstnikul on individuaalne lähenemine sõltuvalt isiklikust praktikast.

“Swipe to engage” refers to our modern everyday life that is filled with smartphones and social media broadcasts. The engagement here is a voluntary act which could be accomplished as easily as one finger swipe. Media and news constantly remind us to keep up our appearances for which we use different social media platforms. We declare that bad things are indeed bad and that good things are actually good because we have always been told to do so. That doesn’t mean we care for either of them at all. The exhibition is about communication – the one that needs at least one side to happen and the one through the eyes of a spectator.

“Swipe to engage” is a group exhibition by Estonian Academy of Arts second year painting MA department. Each painter has a contemporary view on what surrounds them and on what they found during the work progress within themselves. The selected artworks depict the ratio between internal and external engagement.

The engaged artists are: Leelo-Mai Aunbaum, Juliana Ferreira, Kelli Gedvil, Kristen Rästas, Sophia Sadzakov and Karl-Erik Talvet.

The opening event continues as a casual pre-Christmas hang out by the painting department. We offer wine and snacks. Feel free to bring your own as well. All welcome.
