MAY CONTAIN: GOODS FROM THE ROAD

Diana Tamane (LV/EE)
3.02.2018
Rundum artist-run space, ARSi maja, ruum 304
kell 19:00

2016. a võitis ta Genti „Friends of the S.M.A.K.“ preemia ning valiti Antwerperni Fotomuuseumi (FoMu) poolt Belgia Nooreks talendiks.
Viimaste näituste hulka kuuluvad: Sensitive Traces, Sint- Lukasgalerie, Brussels, (2017), The Opposing Shore, CCI Fabrika, Moscow (2017), Extension.lv, Triumph Gallery, Moscow (2017), The City: My Studio/The City: My Life, Kathmandu Triennial (2017), The Flower Smuggler, Surplus Space, Wuhan (2017), Message: 147 of 494, Kim? Contemporary Art Centre, Riga (2017), Coming People, S.M.A.K., Ghent (2016).

Vestlus toimub inglise keeles.

„May Contain…“ programmi toetab Eesti Kultuurkapital.

Diana Tamane (b. 1986 Riga, lives and works in Tartu, Estonia) works mainly with photography, video and text, using autobiographical elements such as memory, everyday routines and personal events. Starting with tiny movements and awkward gestures she is following long roads from the East to the West of Europe. Often her family members are the main characters of her work. Though Tamane’s work might be mistaken as centering purely on the micro-cosmic, ultimately it deploys the personal sphere and family nucleus to reflect on wider, macro-cosmic issues: historical and political transformations, working class life, of changes in global production and consumption circuits and labour conditions, suggesting those momentous shifts that occurred after the so-called ‘end of history’, through a decidedly anthropocentric and highly personal narrative.

Tamane has graduated from the Tartu Art College (BA) and Sint-Lukas School of Arts Brussels (MA). In 2015–2016 she attended HISK post-academic program in Ghent, Belgium. Recently Tamane was selected for the Plat(t)form 2018 Fotomuseum, Winterthur, she won the Riga Photography Biennial Award 2018 and saw her work selected for the Outset Estonia – Estonian Photographic Art Fair Acquisition Fund. In 2016 she won the ‘Friends of the S.M.A.K. Prize’, Ghent, and was selected as Young Belgian Talent by FotoMuseum (FoMu), Antwerp.

Tamane’s work has been exhibited nationally and internationally. Recent exhibitions include: Sensitive Traces, Sint- Lukasgalerie, Brussels, (2017), The Opposing Shore, CCI Fabrika, Moscow (2017), Extension.lv, Triumph Gallery, Moscow (2017), The City: My Studio/The City: My Life, Kathmandu Triennial (2017), The Flower Smuggler, Surplus Space, Wuhan (2017), Message: 147 of 494, Kim? Contemporary Art Centre, Riga (2017), Coming People, S.M.A.K., Ghent (2016).

“May Contain: …” is a series of events, casual gatherings which combine food, drinks and conversation taking place in and around Rundum’s kitchen – since the beginning of September 2016 Rundum is located at the ARS building (Pärnu mnt 154), room 304, a studio space for Rundum as well as a gathering place for talks, readings and screenings. Every time Rundum invites a person of interest to have an informal chat about his/her practice and interests, the art scene, social issues, everyday life etc. All events are accompanied by a gesture made by the invited guest, whether it is something to eat, drink or see, while the discussion takes place around the table.
The talk will be held in English.

„May Contain: …“ series is supported by the The Cultural Endowment of Estonia.
